Community Spirit
Many of our members are involved in helping in and around our neighbourhood in various ways.
We have a rota of volunteers who, each week on a Thursday, transport several Senior Citizens to a lunch at the Manor Farm Tea Shoppe
where they enjoy a delicious two course meal followed by tea or coffee ...with lots of conversation!
We also organise a Litter Picking Team once or twice a year. Sadly, this is often very productive - but equally, therefore, very worthwhile!
In true WI tradition, we are often called upon to provide and/or serve refreshments at events held in the community or nearby. We always oblige!!
[Each week on a Wednesday, one or two of us take round a trolley with small goods for sale at the Hazelford Residential Home, taking the opportunity to chat to the residents at the same time.] Sadly this can no longer take place since rearragements following covid.
The Women’s Institute organization is based on the ideals of fellowship, truth, tolerance and justice.
The main purposes are:-
To advance the education of women and girls for the public good and in all areas including:-
- local, national, and international issues of political and social importance;
- music, drama and other cultural subjects;
- and all branches of agriculture, crafts, home economics, health and social welfare.
- educating people in preservation, conservation and protection of the environment, and prudent use of natural resources;
- promoting sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration;
- and to advance citizenship by the promotion of civic responsibility and volunteering.
